Karen Read Murder Trial Continues

Commonwealth Presents Evidence in Case

The Commonwealth's case continues in the murder trial of Karen Read. Read is accused of driving drunk and hitting her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O'Keefe, before leaving him to die in January 2022.

Trooper Proctor Testifies

Massachusetts State Police Trooper Michael Proctor testified on Monday, showing the jury the broken taillight from Karen Read's Lexus. Proctor stated that the damage to the taillight was consistent with the damage seen on O'Keefe's vehicle.

Witness Testimony

The prosecution also called witnesses who testified that they saw Read driving erratically before the incident. One witness, who was a passenger in Read's car, testified that she smelled alcohol on Read's breath and that Read was driving at a high rate of speed.

Defendant Remains Silent

Read, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges, has remained silent throughout the trial. Her defense attorney has not yet presented their case.

Trial Continues

The trial is expected to continue for several more weeks. The jury will be tasked with deciding whether Read is guilty of murder in the death of John O'Keefe.
